La suiza Estelle Balet, campeona del mundo de extremo Freeride World Tour, falleció este martes a consecuencia de una avalancha en los Alpes suizos, durante el rodaje de un vídeo, según informó la policía del Cantón de Valais.

Estelle Balet, de 21 años, descendía a gran velocidad por la ladera sobre su tabla, cuando se produjo una avalancha de nieve que terminó con su vida.

La joven deportista se había proclamado campeona del mundo en su especialidad por segunda vez consecutiva a comienzos de abril en Verbier (Suiza). La campeona portaba consigo un DVA (detector de víctimas de avalanchas), así como un casco, reseña AFP.

"Pese al intento de reanimación, falleció en el lugar del accidente", precisó la policía.

Estelle Balet creció en el Cantón de Valais, y participaba en la Freeride World Tour (FWT) desde que era una adolescente.
